Ludza county is a border region and is located in the eastern part of Latgale region. Its total area covers 966 km2 (area of parishes – 955 km2, cities – 11 km2).

The administrative center of the county is Ludza. It is located 267 km from capital city Riga, 122 km from Daugavpils and 30 km from Rezekne.

The territory of the county is crossed by the main state road A12 “Jekabpils – Rezekne – Ludza – Russian border (Terehova)”, part of the international highway E22 “Riga – Moscow”, and railway line “Riga – Moscow”.

Population – 12 792  (on 01.01.2020).

Unemployment rate – 16.0% (on 01.08.2019).
